The Secret Lagoon is Iceland's oldest geothermal basin

The Secret Lagoon, is one of the oldest thermal baths in Iceland.

The Secret Lagoon was built in 1891. Until the middle of the last century, swimming lessons were held here, and even a new swimming pool was built. The water temperature is kept at 38-40 °C all year round.

The Secret Lagoon is a beautiful thermal pool located in the small village of Fludir in the center of an area with high geothermal activity. The landscape around the pool is very saturated with all sorts of volcanic things: steam rises around the hot springs, creating a surreal and mystical atmosphere.

There are walking paths, geothermal springs and a small geyser that erupts every five minutes.

This is the oldest known swimming pool in Iceland, right on the edge there is a small two-storey hut, adding the finishing touch to the unique setting.

It was once a changing room for visitors, but a new one has recently been built. Now you will find lockers, comfortable changing rooms and showers, a bar and dining areas.

The Secret Lagoon is known to most Icelanders as "Gamla Laughin", which means "Old Pool". Not many people know about it now, and because of this, the pool has also become known as the Secret Lagoon.

As you already know, the pool was created in 1891, and in 1909 the first swimming lessons were held there. You can only imagine how much the pool has enriched the lives of the residents of Fludir and opened up opportunities to enjoy a good rest after hard work.

In 1947, a new swimming pool was opened in the city of Fludir, and after that the old pool was abandoned. It was only after 2000 that people began to actively visit the old swimming pool again, which today is one of the most popular in Iceland.

Now the main goal is to preserve its original appearance, so that the pool looks the same as 50 years ago, when there were not so many tourists here. And if you compare the view with the old photos, they succeeded!
