There are several options. Perhaps you just want to take a boat ride through the waters of the northern seas, or are you afraid to fly, but really want to visit Iceland?

But, of course, the most popular option is to travel to Iceland by car. If you do not want to rent a car on the spot or want to drive around Iceland in your car, then the problem arises - how to transport a car from Europe (meaning the continent) to Iceland? You can use the services of a transport company and send the car in advance in a container. Where do ferries leave for Iceland

Ferries depart from the port of Hirtshals (Hirtshals, Hirtshals) in Denmark.

Hirtshals is well known for its seaport, which is a base for one of Norwegian shipping operator - Color Line. Thanks to the activities of this company, the sea ferry service connects Hirtshals with the cities in southern Norway — Kristiansand and Larvik.

At the same time, Bergen and Stavanger can still be reached directly from Hirtshals thanks to Fjord Line ferries.

So, in fact, the main destinations of routes from this port are in Norway, but still there is one route to Iceland too.

Another shipping company, Smyril Line, offers routes to Torshavn in the Faroe Islands and Seidisfjord in Iceland.

How to get to the ferry terminal in Hirtshals

Smyril Line ferries to Iceland depart from Fjord Line Terminal, which is located at Containerkajen 4, 9850 Hirtshals, about a 15-20-minute walk from the center of Hirtshals. You can buy coffee + tea, soft drinks and sweets at the terminal, but there is no food.

Passengers board the ferry via a regular ramp. Boarding usually starts one hour before departure. The port can be reached by train from Aalborg via Hjerring. The journey time is about 20 minutes. Schedules can be found on the website rejseplanen.dk There is a bus from the station to the terminal.

If you are traveling to Hirtshals by your car, you can drive directly to the Fjord Line car check point.

You can get to the port of Hirtshals via the E 39 motorway, drive to the last roundabout before the road to the town of Hirtshals (on the left you will see a row of flags and a gas station). Take the first exit from the ring on the right, which clearly shows the SMYRIL LINE with the ferry icon and follow the road that will take you directly to the ferry at Containerkajen 4, Hirtshals.

There will be signs in the port area, at the end of Sigurd Espersens Vej street. There are toilets in the car registration area, as well as vending machines with coffee/tea, soft drinks. All passengers except the driver are advised to board the ferry through the passenger entrance. Passengers can take a bus from the vehicle to the terminal. Where the ferry arrives and departs to/from Iceland

A ferry from Denmark arrives at the Icelandic port of Seyðisfjørður. It is located on the east coast of the country, at the end of the Seidis Fjord.

The easiest way to get to or from Reykjavik is by car.

It is also possible to get there by bus, and there are good bus connections in most parts of the country. Reservations are not required, and tickets can be purchased either at the bus station or from the driver.

From Seyðisfjörður, it is easy to get by bus to all the main places in Iceland. If your destination is Reykjavik, you need to take a bus going north or south. But first you need to take the bus from Seyðisfjørður to Egilsstaðir, which takes about 30 minutes.

If you decide to take the northern route, you can take a bus from Egilstadir to Akureyri and then from Akureyri to Reykjavik. The trip from Seyðisfjörður to Reykjavik takes about 8-9 hours and from Seyðisfjörður to Akureyri about 5-6 hours.

You can also take the southern route from Egilstadir to Hefn and then from Hefn to Reykjavik.
